Adrian Smith was the youngest child of his decorator father, and grew up in Clapton, London with his older brother, Patrick, and sister, Kathleen. He became interested in rock music at the age of 15 when he bought his first album, Deep Purple’s “Machine Head”. Smith befriended the Iron Maiden guitarist Dave Murray, and the two of them founded the group called Stone Free, with Murray on guitar, Smith doing vocals, and Dave McCloughlin playing the bongos.
