Alex was raised in Deerfield, Illinois as the youngest of three children in the Borstein family. She is Jewish, plus her mother was from Hungary. Borstein attended San Francisco State University, and later trained at the ACME Comedy Theater. One of her first career ventures was writing print ads for “Barbie” in order to become a full-time writer. She soon started working on the animated series “Casper”, and then “Pinky and the Brain”, and also began her work on the “Power Rangers Zeo” show in 1996, voicing the character of Queen Machina. The following year, Borstein became a cast member of the sketch comedy show “MADtv”, in which she portrayed several characters out of which the character of Ms.Swan, became her most popular in the series. Other characters included Eracist Anne, singer Jasmine Wayne-Wayne, “Stick Chick” Echo, lounge singer Shaunda, child prodigy Karen Goddard and several others. These provided a solid basis to her net worth.

It was during her work on MADtv that Alex met Seth MacFarlane, who was preparing to launch the “Family Guy” animated sitcom on FOX. He cast her as the voice of main character Lois Griffin, and several other characters throughout the show. (Alex was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for the character of Lois in the “Lois Comes Out of Her Shell” episode in 2013.) She was cast as Sookie St. James in “Gilmore Girls” comedy-drama TV series in 2000, but was prevented from continuing the role due to her contract with MADtv. Her other notable roles as an actress include the films “Killers”, “Dinner for Schmucks”, “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”, and “Catwoman” in which she played Halle Berry’s best friend.

Alex joined the staff of the comedy-drama series “Shameless” as a writer and supervising producer in 2010, appearing in an episode of the show’s first season as a guest.

When it comes to her most recent activity, Alex appeared in the comedy series “Getting On” which gained positive reviews.

Speaking of her private life, Borstein was married to Jackson Douglas – an actor and writer who she met while they were studying at the ACME Comedy Theatre – from 1999 until their divorce in 2015. The couple have two children.

#Quote
1Television and film acting is really fun because you are working with other people and you are not completely responsible for the outcome of the project.
2Usually, impersonations come out of something you dig, because you're listening to it over and over. And you kind of start developing... You're really trying to emulate them, then you realize, 'I sound ridiculous doing this. Oh, hey, maybe this is a funny impersonation.'
3Every comic is really a frustrated rock star.
4I got my degree in rhetoric.
5I have no point in my system or morals where I say, 'This is too far.'
6I think I was born because my parents had two boys and wanted to give it one more go and try for a girl... they got me instead.
7I'm still auditioning and doing other movie parts, but I really like the developing and the writing. You have more control over your destiny.
