Alex Rodriguez Net Worth $300 Million

As a boy,  Alex Rodriguez spent some time in the Dominican Republic, but his family then settled in Miami, Florida, where he studied at Westminster Christian School and played on the baseball team. Rodriguez was considered to be a prospective star player and was offered a scholarship from the University of Miami, where he would play for their team, however, he turned it down. The main reason for it was that he was drafted as the first pick by a professional baseball team, the Seattle Mariners, with whom he signed a contract in 1993. A year later, Rodriguez made his debut in the team, and would play with them for six years. Rodriguez’s impressive plays soon brought him to the attention of the media, and in 1996 he was nominated for the Major League Player of the Year Award. Even though he did not win it that time, Alex Rodriguez began to be noticed by a wider public. After six seasons spent with “Seattle Mariners”, Alex Rodriguez left the team in 2000 but was not unemployed for long.

That same year he was offered a contract by one of the more known baseball teams, the Texas Rangers, signed  what is still considered to be one of the biggest contracts in the history of sports, a 10-year contract amounting to a total of $252 million, an impressive sum that significantly contributed to Rodriguez’s net worth. Rodriguez debuted with “Texas Rangers” in 2001 and during three years that he spent with them, made some memorable plays. However, in 2004, Rangers made a trade and Rodriguez joined the New York Yankees, with whom he debuted that same year. With the Yankees, Rodriguez won the American League home run title, Babe Ruth Home Run Award and established himself as one of the most wanted players in the league. In 2007, Rodriguez extended his contract with Yankees, and currently his 10-year deal amounts to $275 million. Even though he has met with some controversy during his professional baseball career, mainly the abuse of steroids, which eventually resulted in his suspension from games for the whole 2014 season, Alex Rodriguez still remains one of the best baseball players in the history.

To summarise Rodriguez’s 22-year career, he has a .297 batting average, scored 696 home runs, batted in over 2000 runs (RBI), and has over 3,000 hits. He has been selected for the All-Star game 14 times; has won three American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, ten Silver Slugger Awards, and two Gold Glove Awards. He is also the career record holder for grand slams with 25.

In his personal life, Alex was married to Cynthia Scurtis from 2002-08, and they have two children. They divorced after Alex’s several rather public affairs.
