Barbara Bush Net Worth $25 Million

She grew up in Rye, New York City, the youngest of three born to Pauline and Marvin Pierce. She went to Rye Country Day School between 1931 and 1937, and then enrolled in the boarding school at Ashley Hall, located in Charleston, South California, for three years between 1940 and 1943. She attended Smith College, in Northampton, Massachusetts, but eventually dropped out, and married George Herbert Walker Bush. The couple met when she was only 16, and in 1945 they married.

In the beginning, the two would often move around the USA, because of George`s naval obligations. Later, as George became more and more involved in politics, she followed him, and fought her own battles, which included pro-choice stance on abortion, while also furthering women rights inside the Republican Party. Following George’s involvement in the oil industry, and living in Texas, her husband`s role in politics became more notable, and Barbara`s name also reached stardom, which enabled her further influence on daily life in the USA. When one of her sons was diagnosed with dyslexia, she began the fight with illiteracy, making it easier for people with disorder in cognitive functions. Once her husband was elected President, she brought her fight a step further, starting the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Even after George`s presidency ended, she stayed active as a public person, fighting a perpetual battle against illiteracy.

She started several more programs and has collaborated with other organizations, which eventually earned her the Award for Greatest Public Service Benefiting the Disadvantaged in 1995, given by the Jefferson Awards. Also, two years later, she received the Miss America Women of Achievement Award.

Regarding her personal life, she has been married to George H.W. Bush since 1945, and the couple has six children. She has had several health problems since 2008, including abdominal pains, aortic valve replacement surgery, and respiratory issues, for which she has spent some time in hospitals, fortunately, nothing life threatening.
