Yvette Marie Stevens was born on 23rd March 1953, in Chicago, Illinois USA. This legendary singer/songwriter is known under the names of Chaka Khan and is also called the Queen of Funk. The sales of her records exceed 70 million worldwide, more, she has managed to win 10 Grammy Awards which have added much to Chaka Khan’s net worth. She has been active in the entertainment industry since 1970.

The main source of Chaka Khan’s net worth is music. Over her long-spanned career she has accumulated an estimated $30 million.

Chaka Khan Net Worth $30 Million

Chaka formed her own group, The Crystalettes, in her early teens, and then during her teenage years played with various groups around Chicago. She married at 17, after dropping out of high school, and adopted her husband’s name; then began her serious professional career, as a member of the band Rufus in 1972, which became popular with the hit “Tell Me Something Good” (1974), for which the band won a Grammy Award. More, their fifth studio album “Ask Rufus” (1977) certified platinum, and was nominated for a Grammy, too. Another Grammy-winning song performed with Rufus was “Ain’t Nobody” (1983).

Chaka Khan actually began a solo career in 1978, while still performing with Rufus. Up to date, she has released 45 singles, 12 studio albums, f ivecompilation albums and a live album. In 1984, she won Grammy Awards for her studio album “Chaka Khan” (1982) and for the single performed with Arif Mardin “Be Bob Medley” (1984). In 1985, the singer won a Grammy for the song “I Feel For You” (1979) and another Grammy for the song with Ray Charles “I’ll Be Good To You” (1976) in 1991. The studio albums “The Woman I Am” (1992) and “Funk This” (2004) also brought Khan two Grammy Awards. Other singles that won Grammies were “What’s Going On” (1971) with The Funk Brothers and “Disrespectful” (2007) with Mary J. Blige. All the above mentioned recordings increased the total size of Chaka Khan’s net worth. In addition to this, it should be noted that the singer has received 22 nominations for Grammy Awards and four nominations for American Music Award. On top of this, for her career achievements Chaka Khan received the Lena Horne Award (1998), Legends Award (2009) and Award of Excellence by United Negro College Fund Award (2011). In 2012, Khan as a solo female artist was inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame.

To give information about her personal life, Chaka has married three times, and has given birth to two children. In 1970, being just 17 year-old she married for the first time to Hassan Khan. Their divorce was followed by her relationship with Rahsaan Morris with whom she has a child. In 1976, Chaka Khan married the second time to Richard Holland, but in early 1980 they divorced. Then Khan moved to London, England, and later to Germany. In 2001, she married her current husband Doug Rasheed. However, her private life is even more complicated, as on the one hand fame and fortune, on the other a struggle with alcoholism and drug abuse, as Khan admits to having had problems with these. Her drug problem ended in the early 1990’s, and alcoholism in 2005.

1[on being called a "diva", 2007] We looked it up in the dictionary. A diva is a distinguished singer, but she's also a chick who throws a fit because she believes the hype. I don't really care, though. I get more pissed about the kind of chicks that pass for divas these days.

1Friends with the late Natalie Cole.
2Her famous recording "Ain't Nobody" was adopted by Welsh football fans during their team's historic run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016. They changed the lyrics to "Ain't nobody like Joe Ledley".
3She acquired the name Chaka Khan when she joined the Black Panther Party.
4Duetted with Robert Palmer when he was recording future hit "Addicted to Love". Even though Palmer was thrilled with the collaborative end product, Khan's vocals had to be erased from the master tape due to the fact that she had two other singles on release at the same time (conflict of interest issues). When "Addicted to Love" topped the American charts in May 1986, it did so without Khan's vocals, though she did receive a vocal arrangement credit for her efforts.
5She was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6623 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on May 19, 2011.
6Sister of Kathleen Burrell and Tammy McCrary (who is her manager).
7Daughter of Charles Stevens and Sandra Coleman (who is her personal manager).

13Her song "Never Miss the Water" was featured in episode #3.15 ("The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break") of Friends (1994).
14Was 18 years old when she joined Rufus, the band that made her famous.
15Went solo in 1978 and later rejoined Rufus in 1983. During the brief reunion, they recorded the album "Rufus and Chaka Khan Live! Stompin' at the Savoy" which included the top ten hit "Ain't Nobody".
16Her daughter Milini Khan was a member of the group, Pretty in Pink.
17"I Feel for You", one of her signature songs, was originally recorded by Prince on his 1979 debut album.
