There is no information about Chris` parents and early life; regarding his education, he went to Logan High School, where he played football but also was a baseball player and wrestler, as well. He played in the tight end position, and caught 45 passes for 625 yards, and as a defensive end he had eight sacks and a number of tackles. When it comes to wrestling, Chris was also successful, recording a 54-0 record to win the state championship and All-America honors.
After matriculation, Chris enrolled at Utah State University, where he continued with football, and became one of the best players in his class. He amassed 95 receptions for 1,255 yards, and for the 2003 season was the leader in receptions by a tight end in the NCAA.
After college, Chris entered the 2004 NFL Draft, in which he was selected as the 81st pick overall by the Washington Redskins.
