Chrissie Hynde is a daughter of a part-time secretary and a Yellow Pages manager. She attended Firestone High School in her hometown Akron, and later went to Kent State University to study in their Art School. During her time at college, Chrissie became interested in vegetarianism, hippie counterculture, and Eastern mysticism.
Hynde was also very interested in UK music, so she moved to London in 1973, and found a job in an architectural firm but departed after eight months. Hynde liked the NME Rock magazine and landed a job there after meeting the rock journalist Nick Kent.
