Cliff grew up in his hometown, and played baseball for the Benton High School team. After matriculation he was drafted by the Florida Marlins, however, he decided not to sign on his contract, and instead enrolled at Meridian Community College in Mississippi. The following year he was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1998 amateur draft, but then transferred to the University of Arkansas.

Two years later, his professional career officially began, when he was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 2000 MLB draft, and signed his first professional contract. He spent a season in the Harrisburg Senators, which is a minor-league affiliate of the Expos, and then in 2002 was traded to the Cleveland Indians.

He made his MLB debut on the 15th September 2002 against the Minnesota Twins, but played in just one more game until the end of the season. However, little by little, Cliff’s role in the Indians improved over the years, so in 2006 he signed a new contract worth $14 million over three years, which only further increased his net worth. In 2008 he completed one of his best seasons in the MLB, which earned him his first All-Star appearance.

However, in 2009 he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, just before the trade deadline, and continued with his great form, playing in 12 games compiled an era of 2.88. That season Phillies reached the World Series, but lost to the New York Yankees; Cliff was one of the better performers of the Phillies in the series.

Nevertheless, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners, but didn’t stay long in Seattle, as he was traded the same year to the Texas Rangers, and once again reached the World Series, however, this time Lee and his Rangers lost to the San Francisco Giants.

After Rangers, Lee returned to the Philadelphia Phillies, this time as a free agent and signed a contract worth $120 million over five years, which only increased his wealth to a large degree.

Unfortunately, after only one healthy season, Cliff’s became marred by injuries, and in 2015 he became free agent, as his contract expired and also, he missed the entire 2015 season due to a left common flexor tendon tear.

Regarding his personal life, Lee has been married to Kristen since 2000; the couple has two children together, and resides in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia.
