Showing an intense enthusiasm for music from an early age, Rae initially studied violin until she was gifted an electric guitar in her early teens. Motivated by 90’s rock icons as L7, and Belly, Rae formed her first all- female rock band named ‘Helen’. Sadly, the band eventually collapsed, regardless of having huge local followings, after one of the members left to have a baby.

Rae then put her music career aside temporarily to study English Literature at the University of Leeds, UK, where she also began listening to Jazz and soul music, which inspired her even more. Eventually, after graduation, she began a second attempt at a music career

In 2004, she got her break when she was approached by Mark Hill to appear on his new album ‘Better Luck Next Time’. Corinne subsequently made a quick move to issue her first single songs called “Like a Star” followed by the second one ‘Put Your Records On’, both of which became instant hits across UK, US and Europe. More amazingly, the record went to score total sales of over 2.7 million copies around the globe by the end of 2006. Her debut album was also a major success, reaching the mainstream top at the start of 2007.

Corinne released her second album in 2010 which earned an Album of the Year nomination for the Mercury Prize awards. Her song “Is This Love” won a Grammy Award for the best R and B performance of the year. Altogether, she has sold over five million copies of her two albums all over the world.

Talking about her personal life, Corinne married saxophone player Jason Rae in 2001 when she was just 22, however, the 29-year old singer’s life crashed in 2008, after Mr Rae died from a drug overdose. However, she eventually moved on as detailed above, and focused on her career. She is currently residing in England. So, with a present generous net worth, Corinne Bailey Ray is living as one of the more successful and richer singers as well as an established songwriter of the music industry.
