The actress spent most of her childhood in Westport, Connecticut. Born to a teacher and ballet dancer, Cynthia focused her early years on training to become a dancer. She tasted success relatively early in her life and was only 14 years old when she was signed by the Eileen Ford Agency in the big apple. A year later, the young model appeared on the cover of ¨Vogue¨ and ¨Young Miss¨, and her appearances in the magazines caught the attention of the renowned director, Woody Allen, and he quickly roped her in to play a small role in his 1980 film, ¨Stardust Memories;¨ she was just 15 years old when she made her film debut.

She was then cast as Susan Martin Wyatt Carter in the soap opera, ¨Search for Tomorrow, ¨ from 1981 to 1983. Cynthia´s next major movie appearance came in 1986, when she appeared alongside James Woods, playing the character of an American lay missionary in El Salvador, who was brutally raped and murdered in the movie, ¨Salvador, ¨ directed by Oliver Stone. The actress also received critical acclaim for her role of the character Karen Carpenter, in the 1989 TV movie, ¨The Karen Carpenter Story.¨ Her net worth was rising steadily.

The pinnacle moment in her career beckoned in 1993, when she played the titular role of Gypsy Rose Lee in the TV adaptation of ¨Gypsy.¨ For her performance in the aforementioned film, she was even nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television Film.

In her personal life, she has three children, Emma, Ian, and Audrey, from her previous marriage to Scott Kramer. When asked what kind of impact her career has had on her children, Cynthia has been quoted saying, ¨I know it´s terribly important to show one´s children that we are individuals who give them a template to be an individual, to value yourself for your own unique skills and talents.

As a woman, I´m showing them that I can take care of myself, I can earn money, I can have a job, and I can help people. I play a role in society and in the community. All of that is a positive influence for them.¨

These days, she keeps herself occupied by providing vocal and acting lessons in her hometown of Westport, CT. The actress originally studied singing with a vocal coach back in 1983 and she has been studying the art of teaching singing, Pedagogy, since 1999. She continues studying with Dr. Joel Ewing to this day.
