Jones later moved to Winston Churchill High School, where he played football and wrestling, and then enrolled at the University of Michigan. While there, Jones won the National Championship in 1997, playing alongside the Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, and finished the season with 90 tackles and six sacks. Philadelphia released Jones in late April 2007, so he signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints the following July, with thoughts of securing a starting job, but the Saints’ hierarchy didn’t think so, and they cut him on the 1st September 2007.
