Doris Roberts was a St. Louis, Missouri-born American actress who is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Marie Barone in the TV sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Born on 4 November 1925, Doris was of Russian-Jewish descent.

One of the most famous personalities on television, Doris was active as an actor from 1951 until her death in 2016.
A famous television personality, one may wonder how rich was Doris at the time of her passing? As estimated by sources, Doris counted her net worth at an amount of $14 million in early 2016. Needless to say, her involvement in the field of entertainment as an actor was the most significant in earning her millions of dollars over the years.

The Bronx, New York-raised Doris was brought up by her mother and maternal grandparents as her father left her mother while Doris was still a baby. Doris started her career in acting at the age of 26, and her debut performance was in the television series “Studio One” in 1956. She then debuted in Hollywood in the 1961 movie “Something Wild”, in which she performed alongside artists including Carroll Baker, Ralph Meeker and Jean Stapleton. During the initial phase of her career, she guest-starred in several movies, but soon found her deserved fame as she was cast in the television series “Angie” as Theresa Falco.

As for Hollywood, Doris was much noted for her performance in movies the “Divorce American Style”, “The Heartbreak Kid”, “Taffy” and many more, as she worked in more than 35 Hollywood movies during her career. Aside with Hollywood, Doris was also very active on stage. She was noted for her work in William Marchant’s play “The Desk Set” in which she shared the stage with Academy award-winning actress Shirley Booth. She also performed in the play “The Last Of The Red Hot Lovers” alongside actors James Coco and Linda Lavin, and in Terrence McNally’s play “Bad Habits”. Of course, being a part of all these successful movies and plays added significantly to Doris’s net worth.

Given her contributions towards the entertainment sector, Doris was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003. During her career, she was also rewarded with five Emmy Awards and a Screen Actors Guild award, not to mention several nominations for prestigious awards. In addition to these, Doris was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2011, and also received an honorary doctorate of fine arts from the University of South Carolina.

As for her personal life, Doris was married twice. Firstly, she was married to Michael E. Cannata in 1956 until their divorce in 1962. Later, she married famous novelist William Goyen in 1963 and lived with him until his death in 1983. She was mother to her only son Michael Cannata Jr. who she shared with her first husband. On 17th April, 2016, she died in her sleep at the age of 90 in Los Angeles, California due to a stroke. At the time of her death, Doris’s net worth was $14 million.
