Earl Christian Campbell was born on 29 March 1955, in Tyler, Texas USA, and is an ex- professional American Football player, and currently a businessperson. Also known as “The Tyler Rose” he is one of the few Heisman Trophy winners to have been a first overall National Football League draft picks. He is known for his rushing on the football field. He also holds the record for rushing 200 yards in three games which is yet to be broken.

He started playing football as a kicker in fifth grade, but a year later he went on to become a running back; it was the position that Campbell would play later in his professional career. In 1973 he led John Tyler High School to the Texas 4A State Championship. He was seen by many as the player who could have gone straight to NFL from high school, and become a star player in no time.

His professional career began at the Houston Oilers where he was the first NFL Draft pick in 1978, and signed a contract for $1.4 million. That year he went on to become the offensive rookie of the year. With his rare combination of speed and power, he gave outstanding performances from his first seasons in the team. He played for six years in Houston Oilers, and then in 1984 he signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints where he played in a diminished role for a year and then retired. Campbell won the Heisman Trophy in 1977, and was the lead runner with 1,744 yards. He was the first recipient of the Davey O’Brien Memorial Trophy in 1977. Earl has other several trophies from his career, and was also inducted in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame on July 27, 1991.

Earl is now President of his company Earl Campbell Meat Products, manufacturing and selling smoked sausage, and other products including barbecue sause, which all adds to Campbell’s net worth.

Regarding his personal life, due to his NFL career and numerous hits and knock downs during games, Campbell now has difficulty walking, and sometimes needs to use a wheelchair. He has been married to Reuna since 1980, and they have two sons – Christian played football for the University of Houston. Tyler was a running back for the San Diego State but had to stop playing due to Multiple Sclerosis. Tyler now spends his time raising awareness about multiple sclerosis.
