Eric grew up on the south side of Memphis. For his education, he went to Riverview Elementary and then attended Riverview Junior High. He matriculated from Carver High School and then enrolled at Memphis State University. His first job was at Rockwell International, ASSD division, being hired as a software developer. However, he quit his day job and decided to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian and actor.

He appeared in several stand-up comedy events, but his breakthrough came in 1994 when his short story “Thirteen” was published, soon followed by his second creation “Days Gone By”. His next successful venture was the screenplay for the film “Cappuccino”, which was released in 1998, having already written three novels – “Sister, Sister” (1996), “Friends & Lovers” (1997) – which was later made into a film, released in 2005 – and “Milk in My Coffee” (1998). After the initial success, Eric got the motivation and inspiration to continue with his writing and so far has published more than 15 books, most of which are about contemporary African-American life. Some of the titles include “Black Silk” (2002), “Chasing Destiny” (2006), “Tempted by Trouble” (2010), and “The Blackbirds” (2016), the sales of which have increased his net worth to a large degree.

Furthermore, Eric has created the crime novel series which has five books so far, including “Sleeping With Strangers” (2007), “Dying for Revenge” (2008), and “Finding Gideon” (2017).

Eric has also authored the graphic novel “Storm”, for which he won a Fan Award for Best Comic at the 2007 Glyph Comics Awards. The graphic novel tells the story of the first encounter between X-Men characters T’Challa and Ororo Munroe.
