Muhammad Hosni Said was born on the 4th May 1928, in Kafr-El Meselha, Egypt and is a military and political leader, who has held the position of President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. From his rise in the Egyptian Air Force, he became vice president in 1975, then succeeding Anwar Sadat as President after he was assassinated in 1981. He took power in his country the same year. He was considered one of the most powerful heads of state in the Middle East. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for the deaths of 239 demonstrators in the protests that brought him down in 2011. In 2015, he was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption.

How much is the net worth of Hosni Mubarak? It has been reported by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is as much as $1.2 billion, as of the data presented in early 2017. It should be noted that The Guardian reported that Mubarak and his family had accumulated $70 billion through corruption, bribery and illegitimate commercial activities. Egypt’s level of corruption was assessed at 3.1 (10 being clean and zero corrupt) and 98th on the countries list.

To begin with, he graduated from the Military Academy in 1949 and from the Egyptian Air Force Academy in 1950. He assumed command positions in the Air Force between 1966 and 1969. In 1972, President Anwar el Sadat appointed him commander-in-chief of that branch of the Armed Forces, and his performance in the Yom Kippur’s war with Israel in 1973 earned him promotion to marshal in 1974.

In 1975, Sadat appointed him to the post of his vice president. In the years that followed, Mubarak was involved in important diplomatic negotiations with other countries in the Middle East. After Sadat’s assassination, he became president of Egypt in 1981 and was re-elected four times, in 1987, 1993, 1995 and 1999. He resigned the presidency in 2011 after nearly thirty years in power when, spurred by the fall of Tunisia’s head of an authoritarian government Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Egyptians launched protests around the country, especially in the cities of Cairo, Alexandria and Suez, demanding the resignation of Mubarak. Over one million people participated in the largest demonstrations, and massive protests also occurred in other Egyptian cities, on the same day that Mubarak declared that he would step down.

After leaving office, Mubarak appeared to be physically ill, but attended all sessions of his subsequent trial even after suffering a heart attack. Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment for being complicit in the deaths of 850 demonstrators during the demonstrations of 2011; higher courts later overturned the conviction. At the end of 2014, the Cairo Criminal Court dismissed allegations of corruption against Mubarak, and at the beginning of 2015, the Court of Cassation of Egypt overturned the last remaining conviction against him and ordered a retrial. A new trial on corruption charges led to a conviction and a three-year prison sentence. It was unclear whether the sentence would take into account the time already served, since Mubarak had already spent more than three years in prison and thus potentially would not have to serve any additional time in jail. Eventually, Mubarak was released on the 24th March 2017, returning to his residence in Heliopolis.

Finally, in the personal life of Hosni Mubarak, he has been married to Suzanne since 1959, and they have two children.
