Soon after becoming an unrestricted free agent, the player signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, but his season was undermined by two injuries to the same ankle that cost him 11 games. In the middle of 2011, he was released, so at the end of 2011, Jake signed with the Houston Texans as quarterback reserve behind rookie T. J. Yates, but played only one game.
Following retirement, Jake has been involved in several advertising campaigns, including for restaurant chain Bojangles, and SunCom mobile commercials.
