John Barrowman Net Worth, Biography, Wiki 2017-2016

John Scot Barrowman was born on the 11th March 1967, in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and is an actor, singer, dancer, presenter and writer, best known for his iconic role as Captain Jack Harkness in TV shows “Doctor Who” (2005-2010) and “Torchwood” (2006-2011). His career started in 1989.

Have you ever wondered how rich John Barrowman is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Barrowman’s net worth is as high as $4 million, earned through his successful career in acting, presenting, music, and writing.

John Barrowman Net Worth $4 Million

John Barrowman was the youngest child, having an older brother, Andrew, and older sister, Carole. His mother was a singer who worked in music stores, and his father worked for a heavy machinery company. Due to his father’s work, the family moved to the US when he was eight years old, eventually settling in Joliet, Illinois, where he attended Joliet High School. He credits his teacher there for encouraging him to develop his talents for acting, singing, and dancing, and he participated in several school productions, in musicals such as “Oliver!”, and “Anything Goes”. After matriculation, John enrolled at the US International University to study performing arts, and spent some time as an exchange student in the UK, where his career started.

In 1989, he won the role of Billy Crocker in “Anything Goes” at the Prince Edward Theatre in London. He would return to the theatre often during the next ten years, taking part in several West End productions, such as “Matador” (1991), “The Phantom of the Opera” (1992), “Miss Saigon” (1993), and “Beauty and the Beast” (1999). For his turn as Cal Chandler in the original screening of “The Fix” which premiered in 1997, he won an Olivier Award. He also has two Broadway shows to his credit, one being a Steven Sodenheim production of “Putting It Together” (1999-2000), opposite Carol Burnett, all contributing to his net worth.

Barrowman was no less successful in his on-screen career, which took off in the second half of the 2000s, after he appeared in the musical biopic “De-Lovely” (2004), starring Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd. Soon after, he nabbed his perhaps most memorable role to date, that of Captain Jack Harkness, first as one of the companions of the ninth Doctor in “Doctor Who” (2005-2010), and later as the star of its spin-off series, “Torchwood” (2006-2011). Seemingly finding his niche in fantasy/science fiction shows, Barrowman’s next big role was in DC’s superhero show “Arrow” (2012-2017), in which he played the antagonist Malcolm Merlyn, appearing again as this character in two other DC series, “The Flash” (2015-2017) and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (2016-present), so his net worth rose steadily.

Apart from his acting and singing career, Barrowman has also worked as a TV presenter and talent show judge in a variety of shows, including “The Kids Are All Right” (2008), “Animals at Work” (2011), and “Small Animal Hospital” (2014). He has also acted as a judge in talent shows, such as “How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?” (2006), and “Any Dream Will Do” (2007). He has also featured on many recordings covering songs from musicals, and released his own cover album entitled “John Barrowman” in 2010. Rounding up his multitude of talents, Barrowman has written two memoires, and collaborated with his sister Carole on novels “Hollow Earth” (2012) and “Bone Quill” (2013), the sales of which also increased his wealth.

Regarding his personal life, Barrowman has been married to his husband, Scott Gill, since 2013. He is an advocate for LGBT rights, and supports Stonewall, a UK gay rights organization.

#Quote
1On each trip [to the country], my parents extended the range in different directions, covering territory that many of our neighbors in Aurora had never ventured into-which I think may be typical if you live in a city with a tourist economy. How many of my colleagues in Cardiff have actually been inside Cardiff Castle? Gareth? No? It's a date, then. (John Barrowman talking about his family road trips in his autobiography, Anything Goes)
2[about Jack Harkness] I've kind of made Jack a hero that I would like to have looked up to as a little boy because as a little boy, I knew I was gay but I didn't know what it was. Didn't know who to talk to about it. ... I wanted kids to like him, and I wanted women, men, I wanted everyone to like him. But first I wanted people to hate him. I wanted them to think he was arrogant and pushy and too sure of himself. And I wanted them to follow the arc of the change he went through in the final episodes of Doctor Who.
3[on Captain Jack's on-screen romances] The best kiss, the person I love kissing the most, was Gareth David-Lloyd, who played Ianto. It was just because I felt powerful, because Gareth is straight. Gareth likes the girls and he totally gave over and was passionate with me and everything. Put it this way: Gareth was always happy to see me. And I felt very powerful when that happened. I was like, I've got something that you don't want but it's still turning you on.
4[on being awarded MBE from Princess Anne (14 October 2014)] I am completely honoured by it, I'm proud to be a British subject, to be part of Great Britain, to be honoured by the Queen and for it to be run through by the Government. I am absolutely thrilled and had no hesitation at all in accepting.
5[during filming of an episode of Torchwood] Gareth (David Lloyd) and I "assumed the position" and went for it. The episode's director never called "cut". By the time Gareth and I were hitting the two-minute mark, my lips were getting numb and Gareth was getting twitchy. "You fuckers!" We both yelled in unison, when we finally realized what was going on and pulled apart.
6Chris (Christopher Eccleston) was always grumpy. You don't always have to be intense. There comes a point when intensity makes you miserable - I think that was the case with Chris. I much prefer working with David (David Tennant) - he likes to have a bit more fun, he's more charismatic as a person. Chris might have been a great Doc but he was darker and had a chip on his shoulder, he was not as much fun on set as David. I will give him the credit that he was the first Doctor to bring back the series and made a damn good job of it. But I just wouldn't go to the pub with him. On the other hand, David's been to my house, we went to the Madonna concert with our partners - we socialise together. He's a lot more fun.
7In the back of his mind, Captain Jack really wants to die because he's lived a long, long time. (on his character's immortality in Torchwood (2006))
8Remember that I have a family. Remember that I have teenage nieces and nephews--and younger--who do surf the Internet for stuff about their uncle. And I would appreciate if you don't make up rumors and things about me. If you want the facts, go to my Web site. I'm truthful. I'm honest about the way I talk. If you want the truth, come to me. (on what he thinks of what is written about him on the Internet, which he refuses to read)
9I'm not the sort that likes to go out and get hammered, I'm not the Hotel Babylon (2006) and I let that go years ago now that I am older and wiser.
10There's a lot of me in Captain Jack and there's a lot of Captain Jack in me. And there is no pun intended. (on his role as Captain Jack Harkness on Torchwood (2006))
11I was gobsmacked by that. I was absolutely gobsmacked. All these things that are happening. I just sit back and . . . I can't believe it but I love it. I'm totally enjoying it. Because I'm a fan, a sci-fi fan, they have made a young boy's dreams come true. (after being told that his role in Torchwood (2006) had propelled him to "instantaneous National Treasure status")
