Joni Mitchell Net Worth, Biography, Wiki 2017-2016

Roberta Joan Anderson is a Fort Macleod, Alberta-born Canadian singer, songwriter as well as a painter. She is a highly respected artist who was mentioned by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the greatest songwriters ever. Born on 7 November 1943, with Scottish, Irish and Norwegian decent, Roberta is better known worldwide by her stage name Joni Mitchell. A nine times Grammy winning musician very famous for her work in a diverse range of genres, Joni was active in her profession from 1964 until her retirement in 2007.

One of the most famous musicians in the world noted for her poetical lyrics, one may wonder how rich is Joni Mitchell at the present? As estimated by authoritative sources, Joni counts her present net worth at an amount of $6 million in mid-2016. Needless to say, she has managed to amass this wealth from being a part of the music industry successfully for more than 40 years.

Joni Mitchell Net Worth $6 million

Raised in the Saskatchewan town of Saskatoon, Joni learned to play ukulele and guitar in her teenage days. Although she did not show much interest in formal education, Joni was very attracted to arts, and started writing poetry when she was a student. In the initial phase of her career, Joni sang in small nightclubs in Saskatchewan and later Toronto, and then moved to the United States to seriously pursue a career in music. She started touring in the USA, and released her original songs like “Chelsea Morning”, “Both Sides, Now” in her debut album entitled “Song To A Seagull” in 1968. Up to today, Joni has released nineteen studio albums, including “Blue”, “Night Ride Home” and the most recent “Shine”. Her album “Blue”, released in 1971, has been listed as the 30th best album ever in the list compiled by Rolling Stone magazine. The success of these albums was very helpful in adding to Joni’s present net worth.

Joni grew an interest in jazz music, and started exploring the genre in 1974. She released another best-selling LP – “Court and Spark” – which included hit songs such as “Free Man In Paris” and “Help Me”. At the time, she collaborated and worked with several jazz musicians, including Herbie Hancock, Charlie Mingus, Jaco Pastorius and others. Although she was making money and becoming known as a Jazz musician, Joni turned back towards pop music, and also used electronic music. Her final album was released in 2007 and was entitled “Shine”. Her music being successful both critically and commercially has managed to add a lot to her overall net worth.

During her career, Mitchell has been nominated for Grammy awards 16 times, and has won nine of them. She was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1981, and has been rewarded with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2000. In addition, Joni was also awarded the Order of Canada, the highest civilian honor in the country.

Moreover, Mitchell was ranked as the ninth person in the list of “The 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time” as released by Rolling Stone magazine in 2015.

Regarding her personal life, Joni was married to Chuck Mitchell(1965-67) and Larry Klein(1982-84) – the artist now resides in Canada. She likes to paint and defines herself as a painter derailed by circumstance. Furthermore, Joni has also made a name for herself as a blunt critic of music. For now, Joni enjoys her retired life from music and enjoys a net worth of $6 million as it caters to her daily life.

#Fact
1A big influence on Marillion guitarist Steve Rothery, especially for her use of open tunings, which he attempted to approximate on a conventionally tuned guitar. He has also named her albums "Song to a Seagull", "Hejira" and "Court and Spark" as among his favorite records by anybody. She has been an enduring influence on the band's music. Their 1985 UK Top Five hit "Lavender" features the lyric "I heard the sprinklers whisper, shimmer in the haze of summer lawns", which is a reference to her 1975 album "The Hissing of Summer Lawns", and she is mentioned in the lyrics of their 2012 song "Montreal".
2Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada [June 2007]
3Divides her time between Los Angeles and British Columbia.
41997: Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
5Pictured on one of four 52¢ Canadian commemorative postage stamps honoring Canadian Recording Artists, issued 29 June 2007. The other stamps pictured Paul Anka, Gordon Lightfoot, and Anne Murray.
6She was awarded the C.C. (Companion of the Order of Canada) on May 1, 2002 for her services to music.
7Led Zeppelin's song "Going to California" is a tribute to her.
8She was voted the 60th Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Artist of all time by Rolling Stone.
9Instruments played include the guitar, piano, oboe, and autoharp.
10Had polio as a child and due to complications from the disease cannot play a wide body acoustic guitar because of the pressure it puts on her back and shoulder.
11She took up folk singing for fun and to earn pocket change for cigarettes, movies and dances while she attended art school.
12Her father, Bill Anderson, was a trumpet player in a Canadian marching band and an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Her mother, Myrtle McKee, was a teacher.
13Ranked #5 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll
14Was at one time romantically involved with Graham Nash. In fact, Nash wrote the song "Our House" about their relationship.
15Was invited to play at Woodstock, but her manager refused to let her because she was scheduled to make her national television debut on The Dick Cavett Show (1968). He saw how bad the traffic was and told her that she wouldn't make it back in time. As a result, she wrote the classic song "Woodstock", which ironically became a hit for Crosby Stills Nash & Young, who did appear at the festival.
161997: Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
171996: Awarded the Polar Music Prize, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music Award.
18Her daughter is a model in Canada, named Kilauren Gibb. Kilauren has two children named Marlin (b. 1993) and Daisy (b. 1999).
191965: She had a daughter, whom she put up for adoption. She met the girl in 1996, and they now have a good relationship.

#Quote
1[on the possibility that Taylor Swift might be portraying her on screen] All you've got is a girl with high cheekbones.
2I'm only a groupie for Picasso and Leonard (Cohen).
3[Chrissie Hynde on Joni Mitchell] "I don't know any guitar player, any of the real greats, who don't rate Joni Mitchell up there with the best of them."
4We all suffer from our loneliness, but at the time of Blue our pop stars never admitted these things. Now, I'm a public person, and my life's an open book.
5I thrive on change. That's probably why my chord changes are weird, because chords depict emotions. They'll be going along on one key and I'll drop off a cliff, and suddenly they will go into a whole other key signature. That will drive some people crazy, but that's how my life is.
6When the world becomes a massive mess with nobody at the helm, it's time for artists to make their mark.
7My favorite line in all of literature is Rudyard Kipling's monkey: "My people are the wisest people in the jungle, my people have always said so."
8I know my generation - a lot of them, they're getting old now, and they want to think back fondly, they want to kid themselves. A lot of them think, "Yeah, we were the best". That's the kiss of death. That's non-growth. And also that's very bad for the world.
9[addressing young people who may romanticize the 1960s] Don't just ape our movement. Don't do hippie poses. Look at us. Admit to yourself that we only took it so far. Build from where we left off.
