He started playing basketball while he attended Lake Clifton High School, then at Calvert Hall, and during his career there, he scored a huge 1,590 points. Dixon continued playing basketball at the Maryland University, and became one of the best players in their history, leading the Maryland Terrapins to the NCAA Championship title in 2002. He personally won several awards and recognitions, including the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player in 2002, ACC Player of the Year in 2002, and the same year receiving the Chip Hilton Award.
