Washington’s 1991 hit single “Kissing You”, from his debut album “Make Time for Love”, was written during his time signed with the Qwest label. Released on the 13th of July, the song won “Best R&B Vocal Performance” at the Grammys, and reached number 40 in the “Hot 100” charts. It stayed in that position for 13 weeks, whilst also reaching the number one spot on the R&B charts. The song featured on an episode of the TV soap “General Hospital”, a show on which Washington would later feature as an actor. The album “Make Time for Love” reached gold status with the subsequent releases of “When You Love Somebody”, and a single of the same name as the album.
In the same year, Washington recorded a single with Australian pop star, Kylie Minogue, called “If You Were with Me Now”, which boosted his profile in Great Britain, when the song reached number four in the UK Singles chart.
After his chart successes, Washington branched into acting. He appeared in “General Hospital” as the character of Keith Jasper, and in the show “Poetic Justice”, in 1993, as Dexter. He also appeared as himself on the show “Martin”, a sitcom starring Martin Lawrence.
