Kofi’s family immigrated to the United States when he was three years old. He graduated from Boston College, and then had an office job before deciding to train as a professional wrestler. He made his debut in 2006 as part of the independent circuit, and has wrestled for various organizations including the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), Millennium Wrestling Federation, New England Championship Wrestling, and Eastern Wrestling Alliance.
In 2006, he signed a developmental contract with WWE and then became part of Deep South Wrestling under the name Kofi Nahaje Kingston.
