Mark spent his childhood in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he went to Castro Valley High School. Following his matriculation, Mark enrolled California State University, Hayward, from which he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

His career beginnings trace back to 1983 when he teamed up with Leonard Schlemm to start the 24 Hours Nautilus, a one-club operation, however, soon his operations began to expand, and he hired Mark Golob and Dean Moloney to help him with promotional campaigns, and Golob struck a deal with Pamela Anderson, Mike Tyson and Arnold Schwarzenegger. As the years passed by, Mark had more and more work, and he started thinking about a chain of health clubs. With McCown De Leeuw, he bought the Family Fitness Centers chain with locations in Southern California, and rebranded it to 24 Hour Fitness in 1994.

Since then, his company has grown to 400+ clubs and 18,000 employees, which has increased his wealth, while also expanding to other countries, including Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Thailand, among others. He eventually sold 24 Hours Fitness, but remains the CEO of the company. The sale also increased his net worth.

Apart from 24 Hours Fitness, Mark has had other successful ventures, including Fitness Holdings Europe, which he used to start fitness clubs around Europe in partnership with David Giampaolo. In 2010 he teamed up with Madonna and her manager Guy Oseary to start the Hard Candy Fitness, which also added to his net worth.

Three years later, he expanded his kingdom to sports, becoming a part of the ownership group that has a stake in the National Basketball Association franchise the Sacramento Kings, and then in 2015 founded a professional video gaming esports team called NRG eSports, with the help of businessmen Andy Miller and Gerard Kelly. The ventures continue to add to Mark’s net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Mark is married to Mindee; the couple has four children. Other details about his private life are unknown to the media.
