To begin with, she was born into the family of scientist Richard F. Post and poet Marylee Post. Markie was raised in a family of three children, growing up in Stanford and Walnut Creek, where she was educated at Las Lomas High School; while still studying at high school she was a cheerleader. After matriculation from high school she studied at the Lewis & Clark College in Portland, and for a short time was educated at the Pomona College in Claremont. Later, she returned to the Lewis & Clark College from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Concerning the professional career, in the late 1970s she worked as a model in the game shows such as “Split Second”, “Double Dare” and “Card Sharks”. Briefly, she tried the work of producer, although she always wanted to become the actress. Her first small roles she landed in the episodes of television series “CHiPs” (1979), “The Incredible Hulk” (1979) and “Hart to Hart” (1979). Before 1982, she was invited to take the role of deposit Agent Terri Michaels in the series “The Fall Guy”, playing the above mentioned role until 1985 and being seen in 61 episodes. Subsequently, she played the role of the public defender Christine Sullivan in “Night Court” (1984 – 1992), of which 159 episodes have been released. Between 1992 and 1995 she appeared as the female lead in the sitcom “Kiss Me, John” (1992 – 1995). Since then, she has been cast in several television series such as “The District – Use in Washington” (2002 – 2003), “Scrubs – The Beginners” (2002 – 2006) and “Ghost Whisperer – Voices From Beyond” (2006). She is currently seen in the police procedural drama series “Chicago P.D.” (since 2014). All have added to her net worth.

Among her few appearances in feature films is in the comedy “Crazy About Mary” (1998) in which she played the role of Cameron Diaz’s mother. Afterwards, she was seen in the films “Till Dad Do Us Part” (2001), “Holiday in Handcuffs” (2007) and “Backyard Wedding” (2010). Post voiced the animated film “Transformers: Prime” (2013), all contributing to her net worth.

Finally, in the personal life of the actress, Post married her college sweetheart Stephen Knox in 1972, yet the two divorced. In 1982, she married the writer and actor Michael A. Ross with whom she has two children.
