MC Lyte Net Worth, Biography, Wiki 2017-2016

Lana Michele Moorer was born on the 11th October 1970, in Brooklyn, New York City USA. She is a hip hop artist better known under the nickname MC Lyte. She was the first solo female rapper, who released the studio album “Lyte as a Rock” (1988). She was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by BET during the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball in 2013. MC Lyte has been accumulating her net worth being active in the music industry since 1986.

So just how rich is this lady? The female pioneer of hip hop, MC Lyte, is known to possess an estimated net worth of $8 million.

To begin with, MC Lyte started rapping being 12 years old. In 1984, she created the song “I Cram to Understand U (Sam)” which was released a few years later. Soon afterwards, MC Lyte signed a contract with Atlantic Records which was a great base for her burgeoning career. MC Lyte then released her debut album “Lyte as a Rock” in 1988, which was listed as one of the 100 Best Rap Albums by The Source, though it peaked only in 50th position on the Billboard R&B albums Top 100. A year later, the rapper released her second studio album “Eyes on This” which peaked in 8th position on the above mentioned chart, the highest position reached by MC Lyte’s studio albums. The following albums peaked at 14th – “Act Like You Know” (1991),16th – “Ain’t No Other” (1993), 11th – “Bad As I Wanna B” (1996), 71st – “Seven & Seven” (1998) and 95th “Da Undaground Heat, Vol. 1” (2003). All these releases contributed significantly to MC Lyte’s net worth.

However, it should be noted that two singles “Ruffneck” (1993) and “Ride Wit Me” (2003) were nominated for Grammy Awards in the category of the Best Rap Performance – Solo. More, she has been nominated for three music videos awards, one of which she won. “You Want This” (1995) video with Janet Jackson was nominated for the Soul Train Lady of Soul Music Award as the Music Video of the Year, “I Wanna Be Down” (1995) video featuring Brandy, Yo-Yo and Queen Latifah was nominated for the MTV Video Music Award as the Best Rap Video, and “Keep On, Keepin’ On” (1996) video with Xscape won the Soul Train Lady of Soul Music Award as the Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video. Of course, all these mentioned musical pieces have added financially to the total size of MC Lyte’s net worth.

More, MC Lyte founded the global entertainment company named Sunny Gyrl Inc. in 1997. It focuses on management and the development of artists as well as production. Currently, she serves as the CEO of the above mentioned company. From 2011 to 2013 she held the position of the President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Recording Academy, the institution that nominates and awards the Grammies. In addition to this, she has launched a boutique called Shaitel in Los Angeles. All the above mentioned engagements have also increased the net worth of MC Lyte.

Concerning her private life, MC Lyte claims to be single – in fact rumours have spread that she might be gay, although MC Lyte neither confirms nor denies the rumours, quoting the well known proverb “Never say never”.
