Michael is the son of James Addington McCaul, Jr. and his wife Frances Jane. He is of mixed ancestry, as he has English, German, and Irish blood in his veins. He went to Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and after matriculation enrolled at San Antonio’s Trinity University. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1984, and then enrolled at St Mary University, from which he earned his Juris Doctorate degree.
