In the beginning of the 1940s, Khan built the first bank in the kingdom, Hyderabad State Bank, and was also responsible for other buildings such as the Osmania General Hospital, Asafiya Library, Osmania University, Hyderabad Museum and many others.

In 1947, Khan gave a neckless and brooches to British Queen Elizabeth, as a gift, today, that necklace is still worn, and is known by the name Nizam of Hyderabad necklace. He has also made donations to other institutions such as Aligarh Muslim University, and Jamia Nizamia.

In 1947, India became an independent country, and immediately attacked Hyderabad, which was subsumed after a short confrontation, marking the end of the Nizam’s reign.

Regarding Mir Osmah Ali Khan’s personal life, he had seven wives. The first of them was Azmathunnisa Begum, with whom he had two sons, Besides his seven wives, Khan had 42 concubines. Furthermore, he had at least 34 children and 104 grandchildren. His son Azam Jah married Durru Shehvar, the daughter of Abdul Mejid II, and Moazzam Jah married the princess of the Ottoman Empire, Niloufer. When he died, his funeral was the largest in Indian history. As with many other politicians of that time, Khan was very human person, as he established the Osmania University in Hyderabad, and spent a considerable amount on education, which was free for the poor. He founded the Main Experimental Farm for agricultural research, which later in 1972 became Agriculture University.
