Mýa Marie Harrison was born on 10 October 1979, in Washington, D.C., USA of African-American (father) and Italian-American (mother) ancestry. Mya is a well known singer, songwriter and record producer, as well as a great dancer, actress and designer, and has been active in the entertainment industry since 1998.

Reliable estimates put the overall amount of Mya’s net worth as high as $4 million, the main sources of her wealth being singing, songwriting and acting. However, she also has successful endorsements with such companies as Motorola, Tommy Hilfiger, Iceberg, Gap and Coca-Cola.

Mya father, Sherman, was a singer and musician, but both parents encouraged her interest in music, and initially in dancing from the age of two. At four she began playing instruments, and at 13 years old became a member of the professional troupe called TWA which means Trappers With Attitude. However, later the girl focused on singing and songwriting, although it took her two years to record her debut album. From her career since 1998, Mya has released 28 singles, seven studio albums, a compilation album, 27 music videos and 17 soundtracks. Her first two studio albums entitled “Mya” (1998) and “Fear of Flying” (2000) received platinum certifications in the USA, the third one entitled “Moodring” (2003) was certified gold. Mya is the winner of a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the song “Lady Marmalade” in 2002, and was inducted into the Top 10 Grammy Award Performances with her rendition of the song at the 44th Grammy Awards ceremony. Billboard listed Mýa as one of their Hot 100 Artists of the 2000s, in 97th position in 2009. Mya’s net worth has been consistently boosted from sales of her albums, including more than 10 million around the world, as well as 3.2 million albums in the USA alone.

In addition to being a popular singer, Mya debuted on the big screen in the film “In Too Deep” (1999) directed by Michael Rymer. In 2008, she starred alongside Jason Weaver, Jackie Long and Melyssa Ford in the romantic comedy “Love For Sale” which was directed by Russ Parr. In 2011, Mya landed the leading role in the film “The Heart Specialist” directed by Dennis Cooper. She has also appeared in a number of films in supporting roles and even won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role of Mona in the film “ ” (2002) directed by Rob Marshall.

Moreover, Mya has appeared in various television series and movies throughout her career. TMATF: The Mya Arts & Tech Foundation was been founded by Mya in 2005. The fund primarily focuses on the arts and technology education where some classes are given by the director, Mya, herself. She also helps to raise funds for breast cancer research, among other philanthropic activities.

In her personal life, Mya is in a long term relationship with the professional sportsman DeSean Jackson.
