Paul Mooney was born to George Gladney and LaVoya Ealy, but was raised by his grandmother Aimay Ealy, who gave him the nickname “Mooney”. He spent his early childhood in Louisiana, and at the age of seven moved to Oakland, California.

Paul started his career in the entertainment industry as a ringmaster at the Gatti-Charles Circus, but he also found time to write comedy sketches, and he soon became known for his jokes. This helped him a lot in acquiring his first job as a screenwriter, as he was hired by Richard Pryor. Paul took credits for Richard`s appearances on “Saturday Night Live”, and also was credited as co-writer for Pryor`s appearances on “Live On The Sunset Strip”, and also wrote his album “…Is It Something I Said?” (1975). His net worth also increased, since he was the one responsible for writing Pryor`s film “Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling” (1986). However, the main source of his net worth for many years was writing for “The Richard Pryor Show”, which lasted from 1977 until 2013.

Thanks to his success with Pryor, Mooney`s name became well known in the entertainment industry, and it wasn`t hard for him too find other engagements. On account of that speaks his collaboration with comedian Redd Foxx on his comedy, “Sanford And Sons” (1972-1975), and “Good Times” (1974-1975).

Afterwards, he was hired by Fox channel, and became the head writer for the show “In Living Color” for its first season, and created Homey D. Clown, portrayed by Damon Wayans. The two later collaborated on the film “Bamboozled” (2000), in which Paul took the role of Junebug.

To speak further of his career as a comedian, Mooney appeared regularly on the Comedy Central`s “Chappelle Show”, in his own sequence “Ask A Black Dude”, and “Mooney At The Movies”, which also increased his net worth, and popularity as well.

Apart from his successful career as a comedian, Paul can also praise himself as actor, appearing in over 20 film and TV titles, including “Bustin`Loose” (1981), “In The Army Now” (1994), “The Ketchup King” (2002), “Judge Mooney” (2004), “Homie Spumoni” (2006), and “Meet The Blacks” (2016). These added to his net worth too.

When it comes to his personal life, Paul Mooney was married to Yvonne Carothers, with whom he has four children, including the popular actors – The Mooney Twins: Daryl and Dwayne, and Shane Mooney. Although it was announced by his brother that he has cancer, Mooney still performs as a comedian.

  1. I think he is worth far more than this heck, I am worth more than this and I am just a professional. The problem with all these guestimation of wealth of celebrities is that many of the popular celebrities net worth tend to be over exaggerated in line with their popularity and I know certain factors are taken into consideration but feel not all factors. This means sometimes a lot of celebs are over-hyped in terms of their net worth whilst some who may not be in the limelight as much but very business savvy, are under-estimated on their net worth as I believe in this case.
