Pete Best Net Worth, Wiki & Biography in 2017

Pete Best was born as Randolph Peter Scanland on the 24th November 1941 in Madras, Madras Presidency, British India. He is probably best known for being the first drummer of The Beatles, from 1960 to 1962, when he was replaced with Ringo Starr by the band’s manager, just before the band became widely-known. He is also recognized as the founder of The Pete Best Band. His career was active from 1959 to 1968, and again from 1988 to present day.

Have you ever wondered how rich is Pete Best? Sources estimate that Pete Best’s net worth is $400,000 as of early 2016, with the main source of this amount of money being, of course, his professional career in the music industry. In addition to this, he has appeared in a number of TV shows which have also added a lot to the overall size of his net worth.

Pete Best was raised with two siblings by Donald Peter Scanland, who worked as a marine engineer, and his wife, Alice Mona Best, who worked as a doctor with the Red Cross. When he was four, the family moved from India to Liverpool, England, where his mother opened The Casbah Coffee Club in the basement of their house, and where he started playing the drums with brother. He attended Liverpool Collegiate Grammar School, and during studies he resolved that he wanted to be a part of a music group. Thus, before he became a “Beatle”, Pete performed in a number of bands, including the Black Jacks, however, after the band broke up, he auditioned for The Beatles, and was hired as he was the only drummer who wanted to go with them to Hamburg for their first concert. The band picked up positive critiques from the public, and went into the studio to record their debut album. Pete was waived from the band, before the album was released, but the real reason still remains a mystery; there was some speculation that he just wasn’t good enough for The Beatles, but it has never been confirmed.

After The Beatles, Pete was offered a new contract and a band around him, but he refused, as he was feeling depressed, and didn’t want to talk to anyone. Subsequently, he recuperated, and formed several bands, and released one album entitled “Best Of The Beatles”, but it had no success with the public.

Consequently, he decided to leave show business and focus on other matters, but twenty years later, in 1988, he appeared at The Beatles convention in Liverpool, playing drums, alongside his brother. Afterwards, Pete formed The Pete Best Band, which even now tours across the USA, increasing Pete’s net worth little by little. The band has also released an album, entitled “Haymans Green” in 2008.

Thanks to being the original member of The Beatles, Pete has appeared in several documentaries about the band, such as “Love Me Do: The Beatles ‘62” (2012), “I Was There: When The Beatles Played The Cavern” (2011), “Death Of A Beatle” (2001), “I Knew John Lennon” (2003), among others. Pete has also guest starred in the film “The Rocker” (2000), which further added to his net worth. Most recently, Pete is in the process of shooting another documentary, entitled “Cooked Up”, which is scheduled for a 2016 release and no doubt will add to his net worth.

When it comes to his personal life, Pete Best has been married to Kathy Best since 1963; the couple has two daughters and four grandchildren, and still reside in Liverpool.

He also has a one-man show where he talks openly of his days with the Beatles, as well as making personal appearances on TV & radio shows, record/memorabilia collector events, and as a special guest speaker.
2In March, 1964, he was living in West Derby, Lancashire, England.
3Is portrayed by Scot Williams in Backbeat (1994).
4Mother owned a coffee club called "The Casbah" in the family home's basement. The house still stands to this day, and the basement club is open for tours by appointment.
5In the wake of The Beatles' success, Best was signed to a recording deal on his own, resulting in the dubiously-titled LP "Best Of The Beatles" (a reference to his former band). The album went nowhere, and Best gave up his music career, first becoming a baker, then later a civil servant.
6When he was first let go from The Beatles, manager Brian Epstein offered to put a new group together showcasing Best. Finding this more difficult than expected, Epstein finally pulled some strings with another Liverpool band's manager, who invited Best to join them.
7Besides his lack of "chops" as a drummer, the other reason cited for Best's firing from The Beatles was that he'd never tried to fit in as a member of the group; while the other members frequently spent their free time together, Best usually went off on his own, even sitting alone during their breaks between sets. He'd also kept his same duck-tail hairstyle, when the band decided to adopt the "Beatle cut".
8Belatedly shared in The Beatles' success without him, when early recordings featuring Best on drums were included in 1995's "The Beatles Anthology"; Best's share of the royalties was projected at over $1 million.
9Father of two daughters, Buba and Bonita
10Mother owned a coffee/club in the family home's basement called the Casbah
11Half-brother Roag was fathered by Neil Aspinall, who lived with the Best family in the late 50s/early 60s. Neil later became The Beatles' road manager and now runs The Beatles' record company, Apple.
12Has two brothers, Rory and Roag
13Drummer for The Beatles (August 1960-August 1962).

#Quote
1{When asked why he was fired from The Beatles} "Oh, I don't really know to this day. I was told they wanted a better drummer, I was anti-social, they didn't like my hair, but it is still very much a gray area and the reasons don't hold water".
2You know, Brian Epstein, Stu, John Lennon and George Harrison are all gone. I am still in love with the woman I married 42 years ago. I have two beautiful daughters and four wonderful grandkids and a band I love making music with. As long as I have my health, I'm just going to keep on going.
3(when asked in the late 1970s who was the better drummer, Ringo Starr or himself) "I am."
