Rebbie Jackson was the oldest of ten children born into the working-class Jackson family – has often been quoted saying that she felt like a second mother to her many siblings, having had to babysit them many times. Rebbie enjoyed a particular connection to her mother, Katherine Jackson, and it is likely from her that Rebbie Jackson took her standpoint of family over show business. Indeed, though she was a successful singer, and proficient in the use of several instruments since childhood, Rebbie Jackson was reluctant to follow in her brothers’ footsteps – aged eighteen, Rebbie had many a fight with her father over the matter of her desire to marry and settle down, rather than become a professional singer.
