Richard Christy spent his childhood in Redfield, a city in Kansas, the son of a Vietnam veteran. At the age of 10, he started playing drums in his elementary school band Uniontown. His inspiration to start playing was Alex Van Halen’s drumming in the song entitled “Hot For Teacher”, by the band Van Halen. At the beginning he played snare drum, and later his parents bought him a Gretsh drum set, so he could practice every day after school.
After graduation, Christy decided to move to Florida, hoping that he would meet the leader of the band Death, Chuck Schuldiner, and did so in the mid-1990s, soon auditioned and eventually became the new drummer of the band Death. He stayed with the band until Chuck`s death in 2001 after he lost the battle with cancer. Richard was on the band`s seventh studio album “The Sound Of Perseverance” (1998), and was also on tour with them, later that year, of which two concert albums were released, “Live In Eindhoven” (1998), and “Live In L.A” (1999). His net worth was growing a little.
Afterwards, he co-founded death metal band Burning Inside, with musicians Steve Childress, Jamie Prim, and Michael Estes. They released three albums before disbanding in 2007 – “The Eve Of Entities” (2000), “Apparition” (2001), and “Burning Inside” (2007), which considerably increased his overall net worth.
Richard was also the drummer of the band Iced Earth from 2001 until 2004, and he is currently working on his own band, called Charred Walls Of The Damned, with which he has released two albums “Charred Walls Of The Damned” (2010), and “Cold Winds Of Timeless Days” (2011).
However, apart from his successful career in music, Richard is also known for his career as a radio personality; having first appeared in 1999,.he has been an official member of the “Howard Stern Show” since 2004, performing prank calls, comedy stunts and song parodies – a useful addition to his net worth.
