James Richard Perry was born on the 4th March 1950, in Paint Creek, Texas USA; however, he also has English descent, as his family ties trace back to the Thirteen Colonies. He is best known to the world as ta politician, in particular earning his fame and part of his net worth as the longest serving Governor of Texas, from 2000 to 2015. To talk about his early life, Perry grew up in Haskell County, Texas. His father was a politician of the Democratic Party, serving as a commissioner of Haskell County. Perry`s first interest in politics appeared when he was just 12 years old, while attending the commemoration for the late USA Representative Sam Rayburn.
Regarding his education, Rick obtained his high school diploma from the Paint Creek High School, following which he enrolled at Texas A&M University, and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelors degree in animal science.
Before his career as a politician began, he had several jobs, including as a book salesman. However, rom college he entered the USA military, eventually becoming a US Air Force captain before leaving the military in 1977.
His political career began in 1984, when he was elected to be a member of the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat. In the next few years, his engagement in politics grew, as well his net worth. However, in 1989 he announced that he would be fighting on the Republican Party side as of the beginning of the 1990.
In 1990, he embarked on a campaign to become the Commissioner of Agriculture for Texas; eventually emerging victorious in the runoff against Richard McIver. He served as a commissioner until 1998, when he chose not to stand again, but instead devoted himself to becoming the Lieutenant Governor of Texas. He gained the governorship on the 21st December 2000, succeeding George W. Bush who became the President of the USA.
Over the following years, Perry dominated the elections for the Texas Governor, winning mandates on three different occasions, in 2002, 2006, and 2010. This made him the longest serving Governor of Texas and it has increased his overall net worth. During his tenure, he had also run for president as a Republican candidate in 2012, however, his results were inferior to the other Republican candidates, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
In 2013 he announced that he would leave the position of Governor when his 2010 mandate ends, and in 2015, he was succeeded by Dan Patrick. His latest venture in his career as a politician includes candidacy for the presidential election of the 2016.
To talk about his personal life, Perry has been married to Anita Thigpen since 1982, having known each other since childhood, and been together since high school. They have two children together.
Rick has also been recognized as a member of the National Society “Sons of the American Revolution”, and has received their Gold Good Citizenship Medal.
