Klesko grew up in Westminister, where he attended Westminster High School, excelling as a first baseman in the school’s baseball team. In 1988, he made the US Junior Olympic team. After briefly playing in the rookie league at Bradenton, Florida, he was promoted to Single-A Sumter and played in the Southern League at Double-A Greenville before being promoted to Triple-A Richmond.
Making his MLB debut in 1992, Klesko went on to remain with the Braves until 1999. That year, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for the next seven seasons, and 2007 was his last one in baseball, spent playing with the San Francisco Giants. During his one year with the Giants, he hit .260 with six homers and 44 RBIs in 362 at-bats. Following his departure from the team, Klesko became a free agent.
