Sweeting was born in the Bahamas but moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA when he was 12 to continue his tennis training. He first won in the US Open Boys’ Singles title in 2005, and later rose to second in the junior world rankings. In 2006, he briefly attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he played for the Florida Gators men’s tennis team, but left after just eight months to become a professional tennis player, and made his debut in a match against Guillermo Coria which he won. That same year, he officially became a US citizen.
Later that year, he served as a practice partner for the US Davis Cup team in the 2006 World Group Semi-final held in Moscow, Russia. In 2007, Sweeting won four ProCircuit doubles titles and once again served as a practice partner for the US team during the first round in the Czech Republic. A year later, he bagged the Rimouski Challenger in Canada for his ProCircuit singles title and rose to number 216 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Rankings. In 2009, Sweeting made it to the Nouméa Challenger semi-finals but lost to Florian Mayer. He then went on to win the Dallas Challenger singles title, and did so without losing a single set.
Sweeting held his own on the professional tennis scene, but it was not until two years later that he won his first ATP World Tour singles title at the US Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston, Texas, which promoted him to a ranking of 64th on the ATP list. However, after nine years of his professional tennis career he retired in 2015 after sustaining a series of injuries that caused his ATP ranking to decline.
In his personal life, Sweeting married actor Kaley Cuoco from “The Big Bang Theory” TV series after three months of dating. He proposed in September 2013 and tied the knot later in December in Santa Susana, California. However, after just 21 months of marriage, the couple have “mutually decided” to split citing “irreconcilable differences” as grounds for their divorce, in late 2015. Since then, the 28-year old has filed for spousal support as part of their divorce settlement.
