Ryan Toby was born on 26 November 1978, in Willingboro, New Jersey USA and is an actor, singer, songwriter and producer, best known for being part of the group City High as the baritenor. He was also part of the 1993 film “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit”, in which he played Wesley Glen Ahmal James. All of his endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Ryan attended Willingboro High School, and later would meet Manager Marvin Thompson, who introduced him to the A&R Director of RCA Records Kenny Ortiz. At the time Disney and Buena Vista were looking for young singers/actors for their upcoming project “Sister Act II: Back in the Habit”, which had Whoopi Goldberg in the starring role. At the age of 16, Toby was cast in the film, and would also become a part of the film’s soundtrack, being responsible for writing the rap part of their rendition of “Joyful, Joyful”. The film also featured newcomer Lauryn Hill who would perform the single “Oh Happy Day”. The film proved successful and helped Ryan’s net worthbecome established.
He then returned to school and attended Grambling State University. He met Jazzy Jeff and was invited to Philadelphia, then getting an offer to become part of the Touch of Jazz Production Company.
He also met Will Smith who was working on the “Big Willie Style” album. Toby would become part of the hit single “Miami”, and also helped write songs such as “Don’t Say Nothing” as well as “Candy”.
His net worth continued to build, and after Ryan’s contract ended with Jazzy, he signed with Wyclef Jean’s Booga Basement/Interscope Records label. This then led to the formation of the group City High, which included Robby Pardio and Claudette Ortiz. In 2003, Toby started working with recording artist Usher, and helped him create several tracks including “Superstar”. The following year, the album “Confessions” was released, which was an instant commercial success, eventually being certified diamond.
One of his recent projects is a new album. He’s also working with other artists, and teaches at a local music school. Some of the high profile artists he’s written for include Mary J Blige, Brian McKnight, Chris Brown, and LL Cool J.
For his personal life, it is known that Toby married fellow City High member Claudette Ortiz in 2004, but they divorced three years later; they have two sons, and he also has a daughter from another relationship. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
