Stella is one of 12 siblings born to Robert Lee Parton Sr. and wife Avie Lee Caroline Owens, including Dolly who is three years older than Stella. When she was seven, she teamed up with her sister and performed on a television program, and two years later she was heard on radio. Also, Stella teamed up with two other sisters, Willadeene and Cassie to form a gospel group, and appeared in several commercials in Tennessee.
